The most important method is prevention!
Disinfectant concentrations must be measured regularly! If the value drops to zero, the algae will start to multiply.
For busy outdoor pools, use an algae prevention product (e.g. Algi-cid, Chloralgin) continuously!
Depending on the extent of the algae growth, it may take several days to eradicate the algae, so do not leave the algae treatment unfinished!
PROCESS OF SHOCKING:
- It is advisable to time the shocks for the afternoon.
- Adjust the pH of the water between 7.2 and 7.4 using Dinax Minus P.
- Occasionally, the pH may need to be increased, in which case the pH can be corrected after the shock, as chlorine granules are most effective at pH 6.
- Chlorine granulate (Alga-Shock P), previously dissolved in water, is added to the water in the quantity required for the shock treatment (usually half a kg per 10 m³).
- The pool water is then turned over. Two to three hours after the start of the rotation, add a flocculant (Dinax Flock F 100 ml), evenly distributed over the water surface.
- After the addition of the flocculant, continue rotating the water for 1-2 hours and then turn off the pump.
- At night, the chlorine kills the algae, and the flocculant agglomerates them into flakes that can be vacuumed out.
- Vacuum the pool thoroughly in the morning, draining the extracted water into a drain so that the dead algae do not contaminate the filter.
- Also, backwash the filter.
- Measure the chlorine concentration. If the chlorine level falls below 1 mg/l in 24 hours, this indicates that algae are still present in the pool. Then repeat the shock test.
- If the chlorine level is high and remains so, the shock has been successful, but the use of the pool may be dangerous to your health because of the high chlorine level.
What can you do if you have high chlorine levels following a shock?
- Wait until the free active chlorine content is reduced to zero, or
- use Zero Chlorines Granules to quickly reduce the chlorine level to the desired level.
